Bjorn Koch Gabriel Kruther Opening Google DocsLocated in a recently renovated office building facing Bryant Park, Gabriel Kreuther has opened, it is here to impress! Foie gras with black truffle is just one menu item among the many modernized French-inspired dishes. It’s a true classic featuring white tablecloths and inviting dressed-to-the-nines waiters.

Chef Kreuther’s previous work includes both the Atelier at the Ritz Carlton and the Modern located inside the MoMA.  His business partner Even Dorros, who has been there with him through them all, chose to take a chance on this multi-million dollar venture, and they’re betting on its lasting design accompanied with their French cuisine to keep them in business.

The style of the place exudes modernism while remaining rustic with accents. Green and copper tones appear through the 95-seat dining room. Alsatian floral fabrics line the walls while dark Y-shaped wooden beams stretch to the ceiling. These were inspired by houses located in Kreuther’s hometown, Strasbourg, France. Dimmed industrial and recessed lighting creates an intimate mood and adds to the modern aspect of the restaurant’s design.

Gabriel Kreuther serves a four-course prix-fixe menu that costs $98 for dinner and $57 for a two-course lunch. But you can also select a la carte, and what delightful dishes should you choose during your visit? Here are a few to get you started.

During lunchtime start with the Foie Gras Terrine or the Sturgeon & Sauerkraut Tart. For the main sample the Herb-Crusted Hawaiian Mero with melted leeks. Yes, they will melt in your mouth.

For dinner it’s time to take things to the next level. For the first course, have the 10 Days Cured Brandt Beef Tenderloin. Second? The Crispy Frog Legs. If it’s your first time having the critter, don’t worry. It really does taste like chicken but better! For the main, select between the Mangalitsa Lardo Poached Maine Lobster served with squid ink gnocchetti or the Truffle Juice Broiled Virginia Quail.

If you still have room, there are great choices for dessert too. Try their Chocolate Kirsch Amarena sponge cake with a selection from their dessert wine menu.

G.K. is a fantastic spot to hit after work or on the weekend if you’re around the area, and it’s exciting to see what seasonal and new items will be added to the menu in this upcoming year.
